European countries won't tolerate electrical and electronic equipment
containing lead, mercury, cadmium, and other materials banished
by new European directives. But there are exemptions and the exemptions
will change. These directives can be viewed as part of a new movement
which promotes creation of products for cradle-to-cradle cycles,
with materials perpetually circulated in closed loops, instead of
dumped in landfills or scrapped at the end of their life.
