In this session, you’ll learn how SMMA member company Renco Encoders Inc., a provider of high quality rotary optical encoders, has slashed costs and cut weeks out of its customers’ product development cycles by creating an interactive paperless catalog for its motion sensors. Renco customers can now download solid models of encoders into their product designs and check for fit and function in a matter of minutes as opposed to two days. In addition, customers can receive custom prototypes in two weeks instead of six, helping to speed their products to market.

Today's global economy has opened up new doors to opportunities, but taking advantage of those markets can be difficult. 1:30-3:30 - BREAK-OUT SESSION #2 - How online catalogs slash costs and cut your customers' product development cycles Facilitator: Jim Giebutowski, Director of Sales and Marketing - 3D Content Solutions, SolidWorks Corp.

The web has made it easy to deliver product information to your customers, but your customers are using valuable time that they don't have if they must still create computer-aided design (CAD) models of your components to check compatibility within their designs. What your customers really need are downloadable 3D CAD models that they can easily plug directly into their assembly designs to check form, fit and function. They can determine in seconds if it's the right part. Simplifying the "compatibility check" means there's a greater chance that the customer will "design in" your product, ultimately increasing your revenues. In this workshop, we'll discuss the advantages of offering your company's CAD models through an online catalog rather than the traditional paper catalog. You'll learn how to implement one and what kinds of benefits you and your customers can achieve.
