SMMA
Announces Fall 2005 Motor & Motion College COURSES
SMMA-The Motor & Motion Association will
offer four SMMA Motor & Motion
College courses in October 2005: The
Fundamentals of Electric Motor Design on October 5, 2005 in Chicago, prior
to the SMMA 2005 Fall Technical
Conference at the Sheraton Chicago Northwest Hotel in Arlington Heights, Ill.,
and Basic Motor Theory, Operation and Application; Fundamentals of Poly Phase
Induction Motor Design; and Fundamentals of Universal Electric Motor Design, during
the Electrical Insulation Conference/Electrical Manufacturing Expo at the
Indiana Convention Center October 23-26, 2005 in Indianapolis.
The Fundamentals of Electric Motor Design will meet Wednesday, October 5, 2005
from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Sheraton Northwest Hotel in Arlington Heights, Ill.
The course is designed for people involved in the design, application, testing
or manufacturing of motors who would like a better understanding of electric
motor selection, mechanics and performance.
Basic Motor Theory, Operation and Application, a half-day course, will meet Sunday
afternoon, October 23, 2005 during the Electrical
Insulation Conference/Electrical Manufacturing Expo in Indianapolis. The intent of this course is to provide technical
laypersons and non-motor engineering professionals with a basic understanding
of how motors operate, what "systems" constitute a motor and
characteristics of various motor types, e.g. dc motors, electronically
commutated motors and induction motors.
Fundamentals of Poly Phase Induction Motor Design is a one day course
that will meet Monday, October 24, 2005 during the Electrical Insulation
Conference/Electrical Manufacturing Expo in Indianapolis. Principles and operation of
induction motors as well as performance calculations are included. The course
is designed for technical professionals who are involved in the design,
manufacturing or application of poly phase induction motors.
Fundamentals of Universal Electric Motor Design, a one-day course, will
meet Tuesday, October 25, 2005, during the Electrical Insulation
Conference/Electrical Manufacturing Expo in Indianapolis. Course content includes theory
of operation, motor construction, magnetic circuits, commutation
and performance calculations. Those who attend should be technical
professionals working in the appliance or power tool industries with a need to
know the operational and performance characteristics as well as the design
procedure for series wound universal motors.
SMMA Motor
& Motion College courses are
open to SMMA prospective members
with discounted registration for SMMA
member company employees and multiple attendees from the same company. Continuing Education Units
(CEUs) or Professional Development Units (PDUs) are available for each course. To
