SMMA PROFILE
MISSION
SMMA
is the North American association, with a global focus, for electric
motors, drives and their control and application. It serves as the
principal voice of the industry and provides a forum to develop,
collect and disseminate technical and management knowledge.
STRATEGIC INTENTIONS
- To
provide a structure, through management and technical knowledge,
skills and resources of the member companies - both domestic and
international - to strengthen the industry.
- To
expand recognition of the value of SMMA within member companies
and the industry as the preeminent source of design, manufacturing
and materials technical knowledge.
- To
provide resources to support expansion of the Motor & Motion
College and related educational programs, statistical and market
research projects and the monitoring of regulatory and legislative
issues.
- To
provide, through the Electric Motor Education and Research Foundation
(EMERF), support for pre-competitive research and education.

Membership Directory and Product Index - Each SMMA member company
is listed with complete contact, address and product information.
A cross reference product index of SMMA member products is also
included. The Directory is no longer published in hard copy but
is available on this web site in the "Members" area.
EDUCATION
SMMA
Motor & Motion College - A series of motor design and
application courses covering universal, brushless dc, permanent
magnet dc, switched reluctance, single phase and polyphase induction
and step motors. These courses are offered in an off site seminar
format, but are also available to be brought into your company for
on site instruction.
Spring
Management Conference and Fall Technical Conference.
SMMA holds two conferences each year, one whose program content
emphasizes management issues for the electric motor and motion industry
(Spring) and another focusing on technical topics (Fall). Table
Top Exhibits for SMMA supplier companies are held at both meetings.
AFFILIATIONS
SMMA is a member of the Associations Council of NAM (National Association of Manufacturers). Public affairs and manufacturing concerns are the primary focus of NAM publications, conferences and other services available to SMMA through the Associations Council.
INDUSTRY
DATA
The
ITR Report - A quarterly economic report published by the Institute
for Trend Research (ITR). The report tracks several indicators impacting
the motor and motion industry and forecasts business activity in
the next several quarters. This report is posted in the Members
Only area of this web site
.THE
ELECTRIC MOTOR EDUCATION AND RESEARCH FOUNDATION (EMERF)
Officially
approved as a 501(c)3 in 1995, EMERF was created to fund pre-competitive
motor research. Governed by a Board interlocking with the SMMA Board
of Directors.
