New Requirements Issued by U.S. Census Bureau for Manufacturers who File Shipper's Export Declarations (SEDs)

Are you in compliance?

U.S. Census Bureau

According to the August issue of NAM Member Focus , the U.S. Census Bureau issued a final rule that requires electronic filing of SEDs, now called ?Electronic Export Information? through the Automated Export System (AES). AES was introduced in 1995 as a means of paperless submission of SED export data. Although the new rule was officially effective July 2, 2008, the Census Bureau has adopted a phase-in enforcement process. Paper-based SEDs are acceptable until September 30, 2008. After September 30, 2008, files may be subject to penalties and fines if they fail to follow the SED regulations.

Information about Census Bureau-sponsored training, webinars or regional seminars is available at www.census.gov/foreign-trade.
